Tythe Barn Wedding Photography|Stephanie and Daniel
Oxfordshire documentary wedding photography of the Tythe Barn Wedding of Stephanie and Daniel by Sam and Steve Photography
An late autumn wedding at a wonderful Bicester barn wedding venue
The Tythe Barn, Near Bicester is one of our favourite wedding venues. Its a lovely wedding place to get married, with gorgeous surroundings, a lovely green lawn, capacity for 155 seated guests inside for the barn, and the adjacent Cow Shed for another 40 guests to spread out into. It also has the Nook, another adjacent building, where the bride and bridesmaids can get ready before making their big entrance. As we are Bicester wedding photographers, its also very local to us.
Stephanie and Daniel chose the Tythe Barn for their November wedding. We had met them at one of the Barn's very successful Weddings Fairs the previous year; we attend these regularly as we are one of their recommended wedding photographers. Samantha as usual started our photography of their wedding with the bride and bridesmaids in the Nook. In my case, I arrived a little later on to be in time for Daniel's arrival. We were blessed during the day with some late autumn sunshine, and the light streamed into the barn during the ceremony. As always, photographed throughout the day (apart from when everyone was eating!) to capture the key moments of the day, including a lot of fun on the dance floor.
Our thanks to both Stephanie and Daniel for letting us tell the story of their day; you can see some photos from their day below.

We hope you liked Stephanie and Daniel's Tythe Barn Wedding Photos!

Crazy Bear Stadhampton Wedding Photography|Gemma and Ted
The Crazy Bear, Oxford wedding of Gemma and Ted. Documentary wedding photography by Sam and Steve Photography
A September wedding at a wonderfully quirky Oxfordshire Wedding Venue
When Gemma and Ted asked us to photograph their September Wedding at the Crazy Bear, near Oxford, we were delighted to say yes. Situated in the Oxfordshire village of Stadhampton, the Crazy Bear is a great place to photograph. With our style bring mostly that of documentary wedding photographers its a great place to work, full of interesting and quirky details.
Created in 1993, the Crazy Bear is both a wonderful venue and a destination place to eat and drink. It has unusual and inventive details, including a double decker London bus as a reception. It also has attached to it an eighty acre working farm! Its a really fun and top quality venue to visit and, of course, to get married in.
For this wedding, both the bride and groom were getting ready at the venue, which meant both Sam and I could travel together. As usual, Sam photographed the bride and bridesmaid preparation, whilst I was with the groom and groomsmen. One of the great things about venues like the Crazy Bear is that the ceremony, reception and partying all take place within the same area; this means guests do not have to travel, and for us, we can get "into" the wedding and look for the moments our style of photography is all about. On this September day in 2017, we had somewhat variable weather which meant we were photographing indoors a lot. The lighting in the venue is lovely but quite challenging at times, but nothing that our Fuji cameras couldn't handle.
All in all, a lovely day, and we are looking forward to photographing at the Crazy Bear again in 2018.

Cripps Stone Barn Wedding Photography|Rosie and Paul|Cotswold Weddings
Cotswolds documentary wedding photography of Rosie and Paul's wedding at Cripps Stone Barn. By Sam and Steve Photography
A gorgeous Cotswold Barn Wedding in the Autumn
Rosie and Paul's Cripps Stone Barn wedding in October 2017 was the 2nd wedding we had photographed in their family; we also were the wedding photographers for Paul's brother Daniel earlier in the year for his wedding to Sarah at St Michaels Manor, St Albans (blog post coming soon!) More details soon but first, have a look at this short photofilm of their day.
I hope you enjoyed this short run through of the wedding!
Our day with Rosie and Paul began as usual with Samantha with the bride getting ready (at a nearby hotel), whilst I was with Paul at a friends house. As documentary wedding photographers, our aim is to tell the story of the day, and being two photographers means we can cover both preparations on the day. We enjoyed working at Cripps Stone Barn again; its a lovely venue between Burford and Cheltenham, efficiently run, and with lovely grounds. Rosie and Pauls whole wedding took place at the barn, which mean we were able to mingle amongst the guests to capture the natural unposed images we look to take at a wedding. We were blessed with a coolish, but dry October day, and the autumnal colours made a fine backdrop for the portraits of the bride and groom, who were joined at this stage on the day by their dog Murphy. One of the highlights of the evening was the arrival of Baz and Fred, whose stone baked pizzas proved to be a real hit with the guests; we liked them too!
We really enjoyed our day with Rosie, Paul and all their friends and family. Here following are some of our photos of their day.
If you are getting married at Cripps Stone Barn, or for that matter any similar location and you would like us to quote for your wedding photography, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us here.

Tythe Barn Wedding Photography-Jen and Dave
Oxfordshire wedding photography of the Tythe Barn Wedding of Jen and Dave. Documentary wedding photography by Sam and Steve Vaughan
A gorgeous Rustic Barn summer wedding near Bicester
Jen and Dave’s wedding at the Tythe Barn was a lovely wedding to photograph. The Tythe Barn is one of our favourite venues, and being Bicester wedding photographers, is only 2 miles from our home. We will tell you more about their lovely day shortly, but, firstly here is a short photofilm from some of our photos.
We met the couple a year previously at a local wedding fair, and we immediately connected with them. They had a clear vision of what they wanted from their wedding photography; not too much posing, and time away from their guests, but instead a story telling approach. Who was there, what happened when, etc. As documentary wedding photographers, we immediately empathised with them and their plans. The Tythe Barn in Launton is a gorgeous venue; it’s a lovely place for a wedding ceremony in its own right; however it is also adjacent to St Mary’s Church, so couples looking for a church wedding with a local rustic barn for their reception are well catered for. Jen looked amazing in her dress from Wed2B, and as always, the staff at the Tythe Barn took care of proceedings efficiently and without fuss.
We were blessed with lovely weather on this August day, apart from a short rainstorm, which left us with a gorgeous rainbow over the barn, as in the photos below.
We were thrilled to get a lovely review from Jen and Dave, as below:
“Much more than Photographers! Their portfolio of work was just what we had hoped for- few formal shots but mainly pictures capturing people having fun and enjoying the day – documentary photography at its best. Mixed in with these natural shots they captured some special moments between us as a couple and took some beautiful ‘arty’ shots of the two of us. The best bit for us was that they were also unobtrusive and you would never have known they were taking the shot! If natural, perfectly captured shots taken by two amazing people are what you want then look no further, you have found your photographers!”
Here's a short selection of some of our photos from their day.

Oxfordshire Wedding Photography | Mixbury Church and Marquee Wedding
The Oxfordshire Wedding of Ella and Jev, in the village of Mixbury. Documentary style wedding photography by Sam and Steve Photography
A country village wedding in the spring sunshine
Ella and Jev's Oxfordshire Wedding in the lovely village of Mixbury was an absolute delight to photograph. A church wedding followed by a pony and trap ride to a marquee reception was just up our street as documentary wedding photographers.
Have a look at their photofilm below to get a feeling for their lovely day.
The wedding day started as usual for both of us; Sam with the stunning bride Ella and her bridesmaids getting ready, whilst I was with Jev and the groomsmen. All Saints Church, Mixbury is a traditional, quintessential English village church, and dates back to the 12th century. After a lovely service, and lots of confetti, the bride and groom made the short distance to a field next to where Ella's parents once lived, by pony and trap.
We love a marquee wedding reception! We can wander around inconspicuously, looking for candid or touching moments, and know that everyone we photograph is actually a guest at the wedding. With lots of room to spread out in the lovely May sunshine, and outdoor games to play, it really was a perfect location for a wedding reception.
After the obligatory and humorous speeches, we had time for a few photos of Ella and Jev together, before the evening guests started to arrive. After the obligatory cake cutting and first dance, lots of partying took place which we got amongst as usual for us to photograph.
As Oxfordshire wedding photographers, we do get to photograph in lots of lovely places, this Mixbury wedding has to be one of our favourites so far! Thanks to Ella and Jev for letting us be your photographers for the day.
A limited number of the photos from Ella and Jev's wedding (at the couple's request) follow below.
If you are looking for Mixbury wedding photography, or, for that matter Oxfordshire wedding photography anywhere else in the county, we would love to hear about your plans. You can contact us here.

Wedding Photography Oxfordshire | Stratton Court Barn, Bicester-Sally and Richard
Oxfordshire Wedding Photography of Sally and Richard's wedding at St. Mary's Launton, and Stratton Court Barn, Near Bicester. By Sam and Steve Photography
Launton Church Wedding followed by rustic barn reception
“Sam and Steve’s relaxed and friendly manner left us feeling completely at ease in front of the camera. They were with us all day, from preparations to partying. Catching beautiful memories from every part of our day!! Thank you so much Sam and Steve!”
Sally and Richard's wedding at St Mary's Church, Launton was a traditional church wedding at a lovely Oxfordshire Village Church. As Oxfordshire Wedding Photographers, we get to photograph at St Mary's regularly, its only 2 miles from where we live. As well as of course Sally's stunning dress (see below for details), one of the highlights of the day was the arrival of their guests on a classic red London bus!
After some photos and a confetti run at the church, we all set off to the lovely rustic barn location of Stratton Court Barn, near Bicester. Another one of our favourite Oxfordshire wedding venues, Stratton Court Barn is a lovely rural wedding venue, but still close to Bicester, Oxford and Buckingham. As always, Karin and the team made sure all ran as clockwork, working in the background efficiently and attentively. Sally's father, Richard and his best man all gave moving speeches, as did Sally's brother.
After the speeches, the dancing and partying ensued. All in all a wonderful day, thanks so much to Sally and Richard for letting us capture the day for you.
Below are some of the photos from this lovely wedding.

Lains Barn Wedding-Charlie and Pete
A Wallingford, Oxfordshire church wedding followed by a reception at Lains Barn, Wantage. Oxfordshire wedding photography by Sam and Steve Photography
A church wedding in Wallingford followed by a Lains Barn wedding reception
Our first Lains Barn wedding of 2017 was that of Charlie and Pete, in April. They were married at St. Leonard's Church, Wallingford, with their wedding breakfast and party at Lains.
As normal for us, Samantha's day started a little before mine. Working together as a husband and wife wedding photography team, Sam will start photographing the bride and bridesmaids getting ready, whilst I am with the bridegroom and his groomsmen. In this case, Sam photographed Charlie, the bride in the family home with her bridesmaids, whilst I was with Pete and his guys at a local hotel, in Wallingford. From there is was a short walk for me and the groom and best men (for there were two at this wedding), to walk across town to the lovely church of St Leonard's. At the church, I photographed guests arriving and entering the church whilst we awaited the bridal party.
For this wedding, as the church was small and narrow, and a full choir was in attendance, there was no room for me to take photos from the front, so Sam and I photographed the ceremony from the rear of the church. After the ceremony, I got out of the church in time for the shower of confetti that followed soon after, whilst Sam was in place for the wedding recessional.
From the church we all made the short drive to the rural Oxfordshire setting of Lains Barn. We photograph at Lains several times a year as a preferred supplier, but we always look forward to it. It's a friendly, welcoming place, efficiently run with staff who understand our documentary wedding photography style, and let us get on with it! After arrival drinks and canapés, Charlie and Pete joined their family and guests for their wedding breakfast; this is a time we use to back up images and to prepare for photographing the speeches. Sam took one of our Fujifilm XT2's with our 50-140 lens to photograph guest reactions from the small balcony in the barn, whilst I concentrated in capturing the speeches.
Once speeches were over, the excellent band The Vents arrived, and Charlie and Pete had their first dance. As usual for us, we stayed for well over an hour after their first dance to photograph their guests partying.
We had a wonderful time with Charlie, Pete, their family and friends, thanks so much for letting us tell the story in photographs.

Tally Ho Bicester Wedding Photography - Zoe and Daniel
The Tally Ho Hotel, Bicester wedding of Zoe and Daniel. Photography by the husband and wife team of Sam and Steve Photography.
An Oxfordshire Wedding in the Spring
The 2nd week of April 2017 took us to the local (for us) Bicester wedding venue of the Tally Ho Hotel, Arcott, near Bicester. Zoe and Daniel, the bride and groom we had met previously; not only had we photographed their engagement shoot last May, but they were also guests at Gemma and Daniel's wedding last summer at Eynsham Hall, whose wedding we also photographed.
Zoe and Daniel met through a mutual love of football; Zoe is a Leeds United supporter whilst Dan is an Aston Villa supporter (like me!) We met them at a Tally Ho Hotel wedding fair, and we immediately "clicked" with them as a couple. They also decided on several other wedding suppliers that day including Zoe's amazing wedding dress from Rachel at Butterfly Bridal, Bicester. Their fantastic cake from the wonderfully talented Karen of Cakes by Kit was also selected at that wedding fair.
Zoe and Dan's wedding was great fun to photograph. The early Spring summer poured in to the ceremony room and bathed them both during the wedding ceremony. Rain soon arrived however, and the spring temperatures meant much of the wedding party took place indoors in the relatively low light of the hotel. However, as always, our Fujifilm cameras copied brilliantly with the different lighting. After some funny and touching speeches, the evening party soon took over, and we as usual spent the evening enjoying the fun and capturing it for the couple. A final photo on the lit bandstand at the Hotel meant our day came to an end.
We were delighted to receive this review soon after from Zoe, via our Facebook Page:
“We booked the lovely Sam & Steve for our wedding & we are so happy we chose them for our big day. We had a great pre-shoot and loved the pictures and instantly knew we had made the right choice. They were more than just photographers, helping out with bows & cravats; and Sam was great at keeping me calm! Was just like having some extra mates around to help out!You hardly notice them taking pictures and they capture the day perfectly, we even received 8 or so pictures on the night that we got to pass round our friends & family which was such a nice touch. Thanks so much!”
Thanks guys, we loved photographing your wedding.
A selection of Zoe and Dan's photos are below. If you are looking for Bicester Wedding Photography and like the idea of a Husband and Wife team photographing your wedding in an unobtrusive, documentary style, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us here.

The Great Barn Anyho Wedding- Rachel and Steve.
A spring rustic wedding at the Great Barn Aynho. The wedding of Rachel and Steve, photographed by Sam and Steve Photography, Oxfordshire.
A spring wedding in a rural wedding barn venue
It’s nearly a year since we photographed Rachel and Steve’s wedding at the Great Barn, Aynho.
The 18th century Great Barn is a lovely venue for a wedding; as a dedicated wedding venue the couple have sole use of the facility. Set on the border of Oxfordshire and Norhamptonshire, and between the busy towns of Banbury and Bicester, the rolling countryside and rustic nature of the Great Barn make it a perfect destination wedding venue. Over 250 acres of landscaped grounds gives plenty of opportunities for photographs and for the wedding guests to spread out.
As usual, Samantha and worked together as a husband and wife photography team. This meant I started with Steve getting ready at a Bicester hotel, whilst Rachel and the bridesmaids getting ready was photographed by Samantha.
We have photographed regularly at the Great Barn, so we were well prepared for photographing there. Like most barns, the lighting can be a challenge, with parts of the barn being much darker than others. However, our Fujifilm cameras as usual copied well. After a moving wedding ceremony, the wedding party moved outside, to the rear of the barn, where the wisteria was blooming beautifully. The early summer sun meant the wedding party were able to sit outside for most of the day, and enjoy the rural location.
Samantha and I photographed throughout the day, only pausing when Rachel and Steve, together with their guests, enjoyed their wedding breakfast. After some moving and genuinely funny speeches, the wedding smoothly moved onwards towards the bride and grooms first dance, and the all –important evening dancing and partying.
As usual, we stayed photographing well into the evening party, to ensure we were able to capture the whole of the day for the bride and groom.
Rachel and Steve received their photographs after 4 weeks, and ordered a gorgeous Folio Albums fine-art wedding album soon after.
If you are getting married at the Great Barn, Aynho, and would like a husband and wife team of documentary wedding photographers, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us here.
Here are some more photos of their wedding day.
Notley Tythe Barn Wedding Photography- Nicole and Matt
The story of Nicole and Matt's wonderful wedding, August 2016. A church ceremony in Chinnor, followed by a reception at Notley Tythe Barn. Candid wedding photography by Sam and Steve Photography
Chinnor Church then a rustic barn in Buckinghamshire
Nicole and Matt's wedding in August 2016 was everything an English country wedding should be. A lovely Oxfordshire church, a rustic Buckinghamshire Barn, a gorgeous bride and handsome groom, lots of family and of course, lots of partying. It was a pleasure to photograph.
Our day began as usual, with us working together as a husband and wife wedding photography team. I met up with Matt and his family, whilst Sam headed off to capture the bride and bridesmade preparation.
I got to the church in plenty of time to photograph Matt, his "guys" and the guests arriving. Sam arrived soon later to be in plenty of time for the all important bride arrival photos. Due to some vintage car trouble, Nicole was a little late in arriving, which of course, as a beautiful bride, was her prerogative!
Due to the requirements of the vicar, both Sam and I photographed at the back of the church, rather than with me at the front of the ceremony, and Sam at the back. Whilst disappointing, we always remember that a church wedding is a religious ceremony, and that the vicar/minister/priest is ultimately in charge, so of course we abided by her wishes. It a good idea for any bride and grooms to be reading this, to check with their minister as to their policy on photography, in plenty of time before the wedding day, just in case of any unexpected disappointment.
Once the service was over, we headed off to Notley Tythe Barn, a new venue for us at this time, but one we were extremely impressed by. It's a lovely rural rustic barn, with efficient and friendly staff. Highly recommended!
After some both funny and moving speeches, and some time for some natural, unposed photos of Nicole and Matt, the partying soon got into full swing! As always, we loved this part of the day, which we always ensure we capture lots of photos of.
A sparkler run outside the barn concluded our day.
Our thanks to Nicole and Matt, we loved capturing your day. All the best possible for your future together!

Lains Barn Wedding Photography - Madeleine and Nick
Lains Barn Wedding Photography of the the summer wedding of Madeleine and Nick, in the Oxfordshire Countryside. Candid style wedding photography by husband wife wedding photography team Sam and Steve Photography
We are heading back to July last year for this blog post, and the lovely Lains Barn wedding of Madeleine and Nick.
Our day started as usual with Samantha and I at different places; me with Nick and the groomsmen at the nearby Steventon House Hotel, whilst Sam was with Madeleine and the bridesmaids at Milton Hill House Hotel. This is our normal start to a day as husband and wife wedding photographers. Nick was joined by his friends and family who were over from Australia for the big day. An Aussie rules football appeared during the morning and was thrown around before it was time suit up and head over to Lains. I joined Nick and the guys to photograph the guests arriving before Sam arrived just before Madeleine to photograph her arrival. Their ceremony was lovely with family readings, and Madeleine truly looked stunning. We were all blessed during the day with pleasant British summers weather, which gave us plenty of opportunity for photos outside on the Lains lawn. The speeches from both fathers, Nick and his best man were both moving and humorous! A lovely first dance and lots of fun partying soon followed before it was time for us to say goodbye.
Some of our photos from their Lains Barn Wedding are below; we hope you like them.
We are a recommended supplier at Lains; if you are getting married there, or anywhere else for that matter, and are looking for relaxed wedding photography, don't hesitate to contact us here.
Lains Barn Wedding- Charlene and Daniel
A Lains Barn autumn wedding in November 2016. Candid wedding photography by husband and wife wedding photography team Sam and Steve Photography.
A Rustic Oxfordshire Barn Wedding in November
November 2016 saw us back at one of our favourite venues, Lains Barn, near Wantage, Oxfordshire, for the wedding of Charlene and Daniel. We are a preferred supplier at Lains, which does mean we work here more often than some other venues. However as our documentary wedding style is somewhat niche we do work a lots of different venues across the UK, which suits us fine....variety is indeed the spice of life.
As usual, Katie and her team did a fine job of making sure everything ran like clockwork during the day; it is refreshing to work at a venue that understands how we work and isn't looking to boss us around, let alone the guests.
For Charlene and Daniel's wedding, Samantha was with the bride and bridesmaids at the family home, whilst I was with Daniel and the guys at a nearby hotel. After a fun game or two on the Xbox (I declined the offer to take part), the groom, his groomsmen and I headed off to the venue to be in place for the arrival of the bride. And fantastic she did look in a gorgeous dress! This was the first time we had photographed a wedding with a videographer, and a drone video crew; the latter being expertly provided by Whirlybird Imaging. The late Autumn light, or lack of made photographing the ceremony in the barn challenging, but as usual our Fuji cameras performed admirably.
Once more it was a pleasure to work and photograph at Lains, and are looking forward to our weddings there in 2017.
If you are looking for candid, relaxed and unpressurised wedding photography at Lains Barn, or in fact at any venue, we would love to hear from you. You can contact via the details below, or with our contact form here.
